Giving care users control over their own health and care: that is the credo of people empowerment, one of the four major pieces of work of the eHealthAction joint action.
Do you want to empower the people in your country or region to take control over their own health and care? Do you want to put health and care users at the centre? If so, here’s the right framework guidance for you produced by EHTEL member, Nictiz.
For several years, Nictiz has been active in the eHAction programme (2018-2021), one of the Joint Actions that supports the eHealth Network – a network composed of all the European Member States working on eHealth.
Together with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) of Estonia, Nictiz has been working on people empowerment. The increasing digitisation of healthcare offers more and more opportunities for healthcare users to take control.
How to achieve this? To help you out, eHAction has developed a policy framework. The framework explains that by managing individuals’ levels of ability, motivation and opportunity, people will achieve a feeling of empowerment. Many of the recommendations can be incorporated into national and/or European levels of policy.
In eHealthAction’s digital magazine you can read more about the framework, personas and recommendations. The whole purpose is to encourage European citizens to play an active role in their own health care processes.
