The EHTEL 2019 Symposium included more than three dozen experts who contributed their expert views on whatā€™s coming up in digital European health and care. The 120 Symposium participants had the pleasure to hear these speeches in real life and interact with the speakers. Now you get a chance to follow a selected few of them via video!

AI Applied to Screening for Diabetic Retinopathy | Session 4.2

AĆÆda Valls has applied AI and machine learning to screening for diabetic retinopathy (in a system called ā€˜Retiprogramā€™), in conjunction with the Hospital Universitario Sant Joan. The researchers have built a system to predict deterioration in the condition of the eye.

AI for Diagnosis and Treatment in Dermatology | Session 4.3

Speaking Marc Combalia, Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Spain

Marc Combalia discussed AI use in dermatology: for example, how AI researchers all over the world have examined images of the skin so as to diagnose lesions. Deep Lung: Deep Learning in Imaging for Better Detection and Assessment of Lung Cancer | Session 4.5

Speaking Vicent Ribas Ripol, Eurecat Technology Center, Barcelona, Spain

Vicent Ribas Ripol discussed a further, particularly serious, medical condition ā€“ lung cancer. He focused on deep learning in imaging for better assessment of this cancer. He discussed a number of clinical and technical issues, such as characterisation of nodules, perception, detection, and classification.

DMCoach+: A Digital Coach to Enhance the Self-Management of Diabetic Patients | Session 5.2

Speak Roberto Pratola, DMCoach and Engineering, Rome, Italy

Roberto Pratola described the large numbers of people with diabetes who have to self-manage their own insulin management. Supported by EIT Digital, the project he introduced aims to offer an AI-enriched digital coach that will help people manage their lifestyles.

Keynote ā€œOur data, our health, our careā€ ā€“ a vision from the Nordics | Session 6
Speaking Jaana Sinipuro, Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Helsinki, Finland
 

Jaana Sinipuro's speech offered an overview of the Finnish Innovation agency SITRA, which currently is very much focusing on the future of the fair data economy. IHAN ā€“ Building Fair Data Economy in Europe | Session 7.1
Speaking Hannu HƤmƤlƤinen, Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Helsinki, Finland
Hannu HƤmƤlƤinen described how to build a fair data economy in Europe and recounted how most European businesses see possibilities in the data economy now or in the future. InteropEHRate - Supporting EHR Exchange through ā€˜Data in Peopleā€™s Handsā€™ | Session 8.2

Francesco Torelli spoke about the InteropEHRate project, focusing on the complementarity being sought by the project to the work of the eHealth Digital Service Infrastructure (eHDSI). He detailed ā€“ as a use case ā€“ the clinical use of such data in an international patient summary.
